DECIPHER is a joint German-Chilean initiative to intensify bi-national collaboration in the research on pulmonary hypoxia and its health sequelae. DECIPHER was initiated in 2017 by the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and the Universidad Arturo Prat, Iquique, Chile. Both institutions declared their willingness to cooperate and exchange scientists, and to develop an international network of research in this topic. The Fraunhofer Institute of Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, Hannover, Germany is the first partner that has agreed to collaborate. Other partners are welcome to join the network. The initiative is being funded by a grant of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The major goals of DECIPHER are to build an international network of research, to address stakeholders and funding agencies, and to supply a sustained infrastructural frame for international collaborative research in the field of pulmonary hypoxia.
